Mecha Press Magazine first saw publication waaay back in 1991 with the prototype issue #0. It only lasted 17 issues (18 if including the prototype issue #0) ending publication in 1995.

This magazine was a sister publication to the then popular Protoculture Addicts as a companion that focused only on mecha and their anime, mecha being typically humanoid robots but also ships and vehicles as in Japan mecha is just short of mechanical, whereas Protoculture Addicts was a broad based anime magazine.

It would give a brief synopsis of the series/ova/movie being focused on then follow that with snippets of the mecha in the show along with technical information for them, such as height/weight/weapons etc. In addition to that they would include game articles in which certain select mecha would get written up for a variety of games as well as article for assembly and painting of models or miniatures.

So, you are probably asking yourself "Okay so what is the point here?"

I was a fan of the magazine and recently acquired them all on pdf from DriveThruRPG.com (https://www.drivethrurpg.com/) and realized how their isn't a publication like this anymore. While it's research could be called light and at times circumspect, at the time that information really wasn't widely or easily available so it was all we had.

My intention is to do a "fan" project to continue the "legacy" of the magazine of sorts now that so much information is available. The key differecne however is that I will do a monthly Mecha "Spotlight". This spotlight will include the background and technical information but also game statistics if any are available (and if not I will make some) for roleplaying games and/or miniature wargaming.

All sources will be given full credit for their work that is included.

I will be starting with the venerable VF-1 Valkyrie from Super Dimension Fortress Macross (TV Series version only).

I hope you enjoy what is to come.

May all your battles be successful.
